Grenada 2

Unknown Player
vs. Qatar (0:4) | Gold Cup | 2021 in USA

At some point in 2021, a guy I know went to Caribbean, hopping all countries and territories by ferries on a shoestring. Definitely a trip of a lifetime! I asked him to watch out for shirts on the way - and contacted some of the FAs on his route. Only one really replied - the Grenadan FA was happy to sell him a shirt for 40$. That is how this weird shirt, which has Grenadas phone prefix all over it, found its way to me. Thanks unnamed friend - and thanks Grenadan FA!

Now, if you are wondering why Grenada is playing Qatar in the Gold Cup on the picture above, let me say it is surprisingly not because Qatar is fuelling the climate change that is causing droughts, hurricanes, floods and rising sea levels that all severely affect Grenada. It is because of money and the complete abscence of any non-monetary values within football - and Panamerican football in particular. If you want to know how badly corrupt a continental football body is, you can easily have a look at the so-called "Qatar factor", which is correctly measuring all the level of corruption in all continental confederations, apart from Asia. The Qatar factor is simply the rate of random invitations of Qatar to tournaments that should actually mean something: Qatar was invited twice to the CONCACAF Gold Cup, a tournament meant to be equivalent to the Euros in North and Central America and the Caribbean. Qatar was, obviously, also invited to the Copa Americana, the South American equivalent, once (but sadly couldn't make it, as they had to ruin other tournaments elsewhere). An no worries, my European friends - of course Qatar also played in a UEFA competition: The qualification to the Qatar World Cup 2022. In my book, the Qatar factors thus look as follows:

  1. CONCACAF - 2
  2. CONMEBOL - 1
  3. UEFA - 1/2
  4. OFC, CAF - both 0

Now, I am not saying that OFC and CAF are the moral instances in world football. Qatar just wouldn't waste money on Oceania and CAF is so caught up in internal fights that they probably couldn't agree on a fair share of the monies they would get from Qatar. No worries. There is no moral instance in world football.

(sorry for getting far off rails here. If you love Grenada and its football and came here for that: I feel you. The shirt is great and Savi did a good job designing it!)
