Mario Götze (Bayern München) vs. England (2:0) | Friendly match | 2013 in England |
For a German that owns 700+ national team shirts, I figured I really don't have a lot Germany shirts at some point. That said, I started to buy a few random Germany shirts that I did like. This one, additionally, carries the print of a player I really loved watching in his prime - Mario Götze. Especially during his first stint at Dortmund, when he was just 19ish, he was arguably one of the best and most-skilled players in the world for a few years. Once moving to Bayern in 2013, he got a bit out of form and basically needed a whole decade to somehow play a leading role again, which he is doing at Frankfurt now, finally.
For the national team, Götze will of course be most remembered for his overtime goal against Argentina in the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil. It was a time at which he was actually struggling and he did not play a major role in the tournament - but he scored that fantastic and important goal, crowning his career early on and getting the title he deserved. Good for him.
