Scott Sinclair (Swansea City) vs. UAE (3:1) | Olympics | 2012 in Great Britain |
Look, I have just spend half an hour of my life to rant about the curiosity of Great Britain being one of the few UN Member states who are not in FIFA, so I will spare you and myself a repition here. Go read my Great Britain post, if you care.
Now, in 2012, Great Britain was hosting the Olympics and did discuss fielding a national team for only the second time at the Olympics for absolute ages. I remember all those arguments of both sides and the huge excitement of having the best team in the world, if Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England field a united team. In the end, they did field that team and it turns out that a Korean bloke playing in Sunderland was enough to kick them out in the first knock-out match of the tournament. Oops. Well, this shirt is from that tournament and I snapped it up for like 25€ somewhere on ebay. It is not a bad shirt, but not great either, in my honest opinion - just like team, one could say.
But as we are speaking Olympics 2012, let me say that I LOVED those games and they are probably a key reason for my stupid love for the UK. I have since travelled across the country again and again and have seen all the weird bits of it, from Sark to the Highlands. I love every inch of Great Britain and those Olympics really caused that, as I spend hours watching every obscure sport. I love all the venues, the atmosphere and just everything I saw. And I still do and would definitely come over for the next GB Olympics.
